Meet WENDY EVERED | Actress and Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with WENDY EVERED and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi WENDY, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Yes, “That which hinders your task is your task”.
When I was at the Yale Drama School, Ming Cho Lee said this phrase one day in master class and I have never forgotten it.
It has resonated for many years and I even taught it to my kids.
You can apply that phrase to anything you do in your life. Think about it.
It helps you break things down one step at a time, and then things become more manageable.
I also that love that its a pearl of wisdom that Ming shared with us and repeated often. He was a world-class set designer who took the metro up every week day from NYC to New Haven to teach the next generation of theatre creatives, and his wisdom and sometimes fatherly advice was golden. I think he was everyone’s rock at the drama school. We lost him two years ago but I think of him every time this phrase goes through my mind.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to say ‘Acting is my ‘go-to’ and music keeps me going’. I play strong female leads. I play a wide spectrum of roles and love roles that are extreme – I”m a chameleon and relish the parts that let me really transform. I love smart comedy- especially dark comedy.
I like to find moments of humor in the oddest, maybe unexpected places.
As I have gotten older I have more interesting roles opening up to me and they are much more challenging to bite into than the ‘young ingenue’ parts I used to get. Not ‘being 30 and looking 15’ is AOK with me!
I have been a union film actor for many years and I took my singer/songwriter music to a deeper professional level during the pandemic. (I’m registered with BMI now) .
I love to work. I love to use my skills. When I book an acting job — I am thrilled. When I get a singing job, I am thrilled.
I am a theatre-trained actress who loves to act especially now more in film. I definitely look forward to more television opportunities.
I have talked (extensively about my challenges in my July 29, 2022 interview in Voyage/LA).And i have had serious challenges – we all have our own, and
the challenges I couldn’t overcome, I manage.
I co-parented two super-cool kids who are now in their twenties.
I have a working relationship with the father, playwright/screenwriter Charles Evered and will be involved in his next film, Beautiful Day, shooting next fall (2023) and continue to be involved in readings of ADOPT A SAILOR as I have been since the first reading of the first version of the original play.
I am excited about what my next performance job will be.
I definitely keep my side job with is pretty whacky working with glowing golf balls.
I live in the sunshine state which makes my day!
In fact I just played at the main stage at the INDIO Festival of Local Creatives. This was a benefit for several non-profits. When time allows I am glad to perform to support the causes I feel passionately about.
I am focused on my work and staying healthy!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a good friend was visiting… hmm…there’s so much to do. I think the broad strokes would be be sure to see the whole city–from a day at the beach to a hang up at Griffith Observatory to tacos in DTLA. And having fun doesn’t have to cost a lot either. I love to take advantage of MUSEUM days like at LACMA or at the Academy of Motion Pictures.
Now during SAG screening season I would definitely take them to see some screenings at one of our beautiful venues– especially if there was.a Q & A with the director or cast following it.
Catching a play would be ideal as there’s so much good live theatre, like THE ROAD theatre for example, in North Hollywood.
LIVE music is a big deal for me– if I’m not playing it I want to go hear it and support the scene.
I’d definitely check the schedules at HOTEL CAFE in Hollywood, and for Jazz, the BAKED POTATO in Studio City.
If there was someone they really wanted to see I’d say the HOLLYWOOD BOWL or the GREEK…. so many music venues to choose from. Some of the best are small off the beaten path spots The Mint, or The Love Song Bar, or the Maui Sugar Mill Saloon up Tarzana way… or just a neighborhood bar with some live music.
Im not a huge ‘foodie’ –I LOVE good food but I love to cook to so we might buy some good ingredients at say an open market like the Farmers Market and just cook . It is important to eat the neighborhood– Did I mention tacos in DTLA !!! ha.. I miss NYC 24 hour diners so I am always open to a good diner. Phillip the Original in DTLA is like going back in time and its fun for visitors.
And in Hollywood, the Formosa Cafe. Tons of Los Angeles history. Delicious food, super staff and huge portions, good prices– a good date place too. Maybe a Dodgers game.
It really is a great town.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d dedicate this ‘Shout Out’ to my inner circle of friends who I go to for advice. The pandemic brought out true friendships when we all needed a strong support system. In fact a couple of them, multi-talented Liz Borden (Lizzie & the Ashes) and Dennis Moody Music (Recording engineer in DTLA and the Mojave desert), have also been featured in Voyage/LA interviews.
But also, Catherine Stanley the poet/playwright/
She is an incredibly talented writer, and works between Palm Desert and Los Angeles.
I would also like to give big props to Melrose Music Studios owner, David Williams, who is not only a very fine musician, but a brilliant sound engineer with studios at the LOT on Formosa and in DTPS – downtown Palm Springs. I recently recorded a new song with David, which quickly led to a job singing lead VOX in a high-energy, punk pub song, WHISKEY & TEARS.
We recorded with the songwriters in his Hollywood studio ‘Melrose Music Studios’.
WHISKEY & TEARS was just released by ABBOTT BLACK on Spotify. Check it out. Clear out the furniture and turn it up! hehe!
Part of my tribe involves actor friends who generously become my scene partners for self-taping auditions. The most unusual so far this year was reading my audition with an actor who riding on a bus in MUMBAI, and I was in a mobile home in Palm Springs!
Despite all these economic challenges our community is facing, I think 2023 is going to be a great, productive year.
